I am Sujina Maharjan.  I am 12 years old. I am studying in class 3. My aim is to be a doctor. My village’s name is Goldhunga which locates in Belau. I have five members in my family including mom, three sisters and myself. My father passed away when I was 11 and my mother does not stay with us. Infact nobody knows where she has gone. My eldest sister is married, my other elder sister is in village and me and my younger sister lives in the hostel.

Before coming to hostel I had a very difficult life. I love to go to school but my family could not afford for my education. So I used to work as a housemaid. My owner is an artist so sometimes I even helped him to frame his sketch. I had to cook, cleaned the house and washed the clothes as well. In spite of doing all the household things I have managed to go to school. As we had not parents we were looked after by our uncle but his intention was not good. My uncle is an alcoholic. He used to send my younger sister to get the alcohol from inn. When he got drunk, he used to beat us hard and behaved very badly. I didn’t like that but I had not another choice accept it and enduring it. After all we had to stay in that house. Today when I remembered those days, my tears fall down.

When he got drunk, he used to beat us hard and behaved very badly. I didn’t like that but I had not another choice accept it and enduring it

One day when Ian sir and Gita miss, get to know about us from some source they came for our rescue. After the agreement with my elder sister, I and my little sister Sushma Maharjan were brought in the hostel. Initially we find it hard to adjust in the hostel then slowly we get close with all the girls and staffs.

Our hostel name is Little Gems. It’s a girl’s hostel. It is run by the fund of Help to Educate. This hostel is like a heaven to me. We are staying at hostel under the supervision of Ian sir and help2educate organization. I got to meet lots of people here. I got a chance to go to school, I got lots of new clothes and I got to eat healthy foods. Besides these we have been facilitated with so many things like laptops, bicycles, internet and so on. For loadshedding we have inverter. It gives us light all 24 hours so it has comfort our life. Here, I got to use computer. As a result I learned about internet. Now I can easily chat and email my sponsor and Ian sir. Even though I have never met my sponsor but through Internet I came to know some of things about her. I know she likes pizza. In our hostel we all of us had same background.

Everyone have their own sponsors. We all study in Future Stars High School, in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur. To improve our study we also have tuition class after school. Now I have learned to speak and write English. Time by time we were taken to different places for entertainment.  Living under one roof we happened to treat each other like our own. They are like my family now. The life in the hostel is better than I used to have in my uncle’s house. We all are treated very well in the hostel. Our teachers, manager and other hostel staffs love us very much. I feel secure here and I am certain that my future will be bright too if I constantly study hard.

Therefore, I would like to thank Ian sir who brought me here, to all our sponsors for supporting us and to all the staffs of the hostel that helped me to grow my skills. I got a new life here so I want to make the most out of it and make my sponsors, Ian sir proud with my hard work which they are expecting from me.  I will not waste this time and will always do my best. Thank you again!
