Who are we accountable to?

Children:
First and above all else, we believe that we have a responsibility to the children that we support. Once we begin supporting a child’s education we are committed to their long term development. We believe in quality not quantity and qualitative not quantitative change because we are working with children.

We have a responsibility to the children to ensure that each receives an equal level of support. As a result, we prefer to create small hostels that maintain a caring and family atmosphere rather than overcrowded buildings with hundreds of children. Equally, we have a responsibility to ensure that we do not overcompensate by lifting children out of poverty and into a life style that is unobtainable in the long term.

Parents & families:
We are accountable to the families and parents of the children we help. Our charity considers the parents to be essential to the development and success of the sponsorship system and we ensure regular contact and regular visits to their homes.

Hostel staff also make it clear to all our sponsored children that they are living in the hostel because their parents want to give them the best opportunities in life to get a good education. They also regularly update parents on their child’s progress and hold a parents evening every few months.

We also work with the parents to ensure that the children continue to develop by getting them to encourage their children to do well in their studies. And of course, all our sponsored children get to return to their homes for all the festivals and important holidays so that they can celebrate and spend time with their families.

Our donors & sponsors:
In addition, we are also fully accountable to our donors and sponsors who, for Help to Educate, are investors in our project to help the neediest children in Nepal.

Thus we believe that, like all investors, it is our responsibility and duty to give all existing donors and potential donors the opportunity to receive regular updates on our work in Nepal. Consequently, we have also tried to create a detailed and informative website that offers all donors and sponsors the opportunity to learn about the work that we do.

Accordingly, we believe that to be an effective charity, we must manage our work with transparency and be conscious of our responsibilities to our children, their parents, and of course our donors. In an attempt to do so, our website offers users the ability to download our constitution, our annual reports and monthly balance sheet with all our income and expenditure.
